Checked the translation, all those years I thought the Magritte painting 'Leci n'est pas une pipe' said 'this is not a pipe'.
It's actually a double negative, This ISN'T not a pipe....I think.
If you are fluent in French, let me know... SVP....please?

yer not fluent french r u?...I took 6 years of french and I'm not fluent, though I can read the french that we have on all products, I couldn't fluently communicate, with a francaphone.

Uh, I'm fluent... well first it says :
"Ceci n'est pas une pipe"
and second, this is not a double negation, just a use of a logically inert but very common french rule...

"ne" and "pas" always come togheter, there isn't suposed to be a "ne" without a "pas"
"n' " being "ne" as it is suposed to be written when it precedes a word which's first letter is a vowel.

And third, this is lesser known, I've been a long time without realising this either, but the actual meaning of the painting is that the pipe is not a pipe because it is a painting, a mind's rendition of a pipe.

And last, I personnally believe "This is not a pipe" would be a better translation.

Huh, sorry if I sound mean but I don't mean to be confrontationnal... its just that this painting is a common frustration to me XD
