Description
An aquatic fern, apparently....and now I think I can guess how it got there.
Duck shit.
Ducks are eating this weed on the surface of the Maskinonge River.
A guy that lives on the banks of it told me he'd been here nine years, and never seen the surface of the river turn red before.
I've been in Keswick twelve years now, and I'd never seen it either....so it's probably an invasive species.
Here's my working theory: Ducks ate this aquatic plant somewhere else, then shit out the spores in the river. (Not seeds if it's a true fern)
Fearless prediction?
Lake Simcoe will start looking like this too. BILLIONS of spores are being produced right now, and they're being dumped in the lake by the river current.
Whenever you hear someone use the words "river" and "red", it's RARELY a good thing, is it?

Is there anything that can be done? Any local invasive-species bureau you can give a heads-up to?
